چکیده

Abstract Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) interventions are promising for the treatment of psychiatry disorders. Notwithstanding, mechanisms action NIBS over dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), a hub that modulates affective and cognitive processes, have not been completely mapped. We aimed to investigate regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) changes DLPFC interconnected subgenual anterior cingulate (sgACC) different protocols using Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT). Twenty-three healthy subjects were allocated randomly undergo four sessions applied once week: transcranial direct current (tDCS), intermittent theta-burst (iTBS), combined tDCS+iTBS placebo. The radiotracer 99m-Technetium-ethylene-cysteine-dimer (99m-ECD) was injected intravenously during session, SPECT images acquired after session. Results revealed none active changing rCBF on targeted DLPFC, but combination increased right sgACC. TDCS respectively decreased sub-regions under cathode anode, while iTBS did show any significant compared Our findings encourage future clinical trials combining psychiatric population mechanistic studies effects tDCS DLPFC. Affective Processing in Non-invasive Brain Stimulation Over Prefrontal Cortex

The prefrontal cortex (PFC) is the most frequently targeted brain region by non-invasive brain stimulation (NBS) studies. Non-invasively stimulating the PFC has been shown to both modulate affective processing and improve the clinical symptoms of several psychiatric disorders, such as depression and schizophrenia. The magnitude of the modulation depends on several factors, including the stimula...

Normal Electrical Activity of the Brain in Obsessive-Compulsive Patients After Anodal Stimulation of the Left Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex

Introduction: Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) has been used as a non-invasive method to increase the plasticity of brain. Growing evidence has shown several brain disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, and chronic pain syndrome are improved following tDCS. In patients with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), increased brain rhythm activity particularly in the frontal l...

Non Invasive Brain Stimulation by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS): Principles and Applications

Magnetic brain stimulation used as a method of psychological interventions in the treatment of diseases. This method functions used in the treatment of clinical disorder such as speech and movement disorders caused by stroke, tinnitus, Parkinson's disease, nervous tics. Applications in the field of psychological therapy, it is possible to stimulate specific brain area involved in certain mental...

Working memory improvement with non-invasive brain stimulation of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Recent studies have used non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques, such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), to increase dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) activity and, consequently, working memory (WM) performance. However, such experiments have yielded mixed results, possibly due to small sample sizes and heter...

Does non-invasive brain stimulation applied over the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex non-specifically influence mood and emotional processing in healthy individuals?

The dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) is often targeted with non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) to modulate in vivo human behaviors. This brain region plays a key role in mood, emotional processing, and attentional processing of emotional information. In this article, we ask the question: when we target the DLPFC with NIBS, do we modulate these processes altogether, non-specifically, or...
